Gold Award Project - Timarie Luker
Designing A School Sensory Room For Severely Autistic Students
Timarie designed and implemented a Special Needs Classroom for severely autistic students at Hughston Elementary School in Plano, TX. The project involved designing a separate area that students ages kindergarten thru 5th grade could go to calm down and rejuvenate during the school day. Timarie researched special sensory issues associated with Autistic children and incorporated aspects into her design. She created a nautical theme room that appeals to all the senses – sight, sound and touch. She created a very professional You Tube Video detailing and highlighting the benefits of the room. Timarie’s design is being looked at and evaluated by other CSC teachers in the Plano School District to inspire ideas for future rooms in their schools as well.
